Mrs. Lamar's students brought in soil from home to examine for science. They had to examine their own soil. Then, they had to write and draw what they saw. Next, they got to examine their peers' soil to compare it to theirs. They saw roots, grass, rocks, Rollie Pollies, a spider, sticks, mulch, an ant and different colors of dirt. Our little Kinders make GR8 scientists!

Mr. H and Mr. E greeting kids in the morning.
The Running Tigers really enjoyed the course at the Montrose Invitational tonight. 3 of our 5 runners medaled (Evee 7th, Rylee 9th and Callie 14th) and Max K. unofficially represented GR8 in the open race and took an easy 1st place victory! A brief rainshower set in at the very end and concluded our meet with a beautiful rainbow. Congrats Tigers!

Our Lady Tigers Varsity Volleyball team has been busy finishing out the 2023 regular season with a 3-set win over their last Kaysinger Conference match-up, the Smithton Tigers. Sophomore Emery Cannon led the battle on the Tiger's home court with 10 kills and 19 digs.  Senior Nevaeh Washington hammered down 8 kills of her own and steadied the Tiger's serve receive with a team-high 2.14 server-receive rating.  Senior Zakiyah Morse and Alexas Stevens stepped up to the serving line.  Morse served up 6 aces keeping Smithton off-balance and Stevens used her well-placed serves to force errors on the Smithton side of the net.  Junior setters, Mallory Reed and Sydney Gordon moved the ball around on offense.  Reed finished with 9 assists and Gordon 18. You can't have assists without kills! - adding to the kill totals were Gordon with 4 kills, junior Abby Warner with 4 kills, Morse with 2 kills, and freshman Aliya Edington chipping in 2 kills of her own.  The Lady Tigers season record is 18-15-2 and 7-3 in the Kaysinger.  They return to the Tiger Home Court tonight as the hosts of Class 1 District 13 post-season play.  Chilhowee and Lincoln the night at 5:00pm then Lady Tigers will hit the court at 6:30pm to take on Lakeland.  Let's Go Tigers!

From Mrs. Fox: "Fifth graders have been talking about Respect and Responsibility in their counseling lessons. They each wrote down several of their responsibilities and made a chain. We discussed how everyone has different responsibilities and some have more than others. We also talked about how we don't want to break the chain and let other people down by not following through with our responsibilities."

Good Luck to Ava Needy and Coach Doane this morning! Ava is competing in the Class One State Tournament at Sedalia Country Club, and teeing off at 8:39 a.m. Anyone interested in watching will need to buy digital tickets through Hometown Ticketing (their app is blue with a large H). From the app you can search MSHSAA, and it will be the first option. The cost is $10 per person plus fees, and anyone over the age of 6 will need a ticket. Go TigerNation

Marching Tigers headed to Sedalia on Friday afternoon for the Smith-Cotton Homecoming Parade. They performed so well for a huge crowd on Ohio Street in Downtown Sedalia. Lots of compliments and rave reviews. They've been asked back in the coming years. Go Tigers!

Mrs. Dove had a vision to trade the old Dewey Decimal system for a new Topic system. She made the change and has not been disappointed by the reaction of students! Look at the line of students at the shelf! "These are the books that have often been overlooked. Elementary students can find what they want now. It makes my librarian heart so happy!!"
