GR VIII Community- We are only a little over a week a way from DONKEY BASKETBALL! Tickets are 10.00 advance and 12.00 at the door! October 11 at 7:00 PM showtime! Check it out! These students have been caught showing their tiger stripes! Kaylee Burkhart and Blaise Schleicher were sent to the office for positive office referrals. Kaylee put forth extra effort on a class project making it neat and easy to read, and Blaise encouraged his classmates in learning new rhythms in music. Kaylee and Blaise, thanks for being GR-8!

GR VIII Families, Students’ and Community Members, For our Fall Conferences this year, we will utilize a Student Led Model. Student-Led Conferences: WHAT ARE THEY? Student-led conferences are meetings where students take the lead in discussing their learning progress with parents and teachers. During these conferences, students showcase their work, reflect on their achievements and challenges, and set future goals. This format encourages ownership of learning, boosts student confidence, and fosters communication between students, parents, and educators. Instead of teachers presenting information, students articulate their learning journey, making the experience more engaging and meaningful. Student-led conferences offer several distinct advantages over traditional conferences. In a student-led conference, students take the initiative to present their own work, reflect on their learning experiences, and engage in meaningful dialogue with their parents and teachers. This approach brings forth a number of benefits: Empowerment and Ownership: Student-led conferences empower students by giving them control over their learning narrative. When students lead the discussion about their progress, they gain a greater sense of ownership and responsibility for their educational journey. This empowerment can enhance their motivation and self-efficacy, as they see themselves as active participants in their own learning. Enhanced Reflection and Self-Awareness: Preparing for a student-led conference requires students to reflect deeply on their work and learning process. This reflective practice fosters greater self-awareness and helps students identify their strengths, areas for improvement, and goals for future growth. It encourages a mindset focused on continuous development rather than just external validation. Improved Communication Skills: Leading a conference allows students to practice articulating their thoughts, discussing their progress, and responding to feedback. These communication skills are crucial for their academic success and future endeavors. By engaging in these conversations, students become more adept at expressing themselves and engaging in constructive dialogue. Stronger Home-School Connection: Student-led conferences strengthen the partnership between home and school. Parents gain firsthand insight into their child’s learning experience and progress. This direct involvement fosters a more collaborative approach to education, where parents and teachers work together with students to support their growth and development. The Importance of Growth Over Achievement: While traditional conferences often emphasize academic achievement—such as grades and test scores—student-led conferences shift the focus towards personal growth. Here’s why prioritizing growth can be more beneficial: GR VIII Student Led Conferences are for the students to showcase and communicate the learning taking place. Parents/Guardians that need to speak with the teacher will need to schedule a separate time for this. Staff have plan periods daily and are available before or after school. In 2011, the Lady Tigers organized their inaugural pink game, a Dig Pink match that successfully raised $1764, which was donated to the Side-out Foundation for cancer research. Each subsequent year, the Lady Tigers have selected to keep their donation local, and this year, they have chosen Savannah Hutchinson. This years Pink Game will be October 8th.

The high school soccer team opened play in the Spartan Classic in Moberly with a 1-0 win over Boonville. Jayden Xiloj put a shot from outside the penalty box over the goalie for the lone goal which went unassisted. The Tigers are back in action tomorrow at 11 & 1:45 vs Moberly JV and Crocker.

Mrs. Dove and Kaylee Riley are sporting matching casts in Green Ridge purple! No one wants to have a cast, but Kaylee was pretty excited about matching with her favorite Library Media Specialist & STEAM teacher!

JH Soccer played at home Thursday against Sacred Heart losing 3-2 in a back and forth game. Clay Goodman scored a goal off of a Max Knoernschild assist. Matvii Nochka scored as well assisted by Clay Goodman. Cole Chappell was in goal with 12 saves. It was a strong effort on both the offensive and defensive ends. JH Soccer next plays on Saturday, October 5th, in the St. Peter JH tourney in Marshall.

From Mrs. Bates: "The Green Ridge Marching Band traveled to Windsor this afternoon for their homecoming parade. 5th graders, Zoe Schleicher and Nora Crystal, were beyond excited to accompany the band and carry the banner. They did a great job keeping our band moving and on pace in the Windsor Parade! Great day for a parade! Great day to be a Tiger!"💜💛

The GRHS Tiger band participated in Windsor's homecoming parade today. They sounded great!

Lady Tiger Volleyball moves to 6-9-1 overall and 4-0 in Kaysinger! Varsity (Win):  19-25, 25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 15-3 Taking on the Otterville Eagles, our Lady Tigers clawed through 5 sets to take the win last night.   A balanced offense kept the momentum in the Lady Tigers' favor powered by freshman Alayna Brosch's 13 kills and 3 aces; and sophomore Aliya Edington's 9 kills and 4 aces.  Adding to the killfest was senior Abby Warner with 8 kills and 4 aces,  and freshmen Lanae Mason and Elyse Cooley each added 6 kills to the Tiger Win.   Brosch and Senior Mallory Reed dished out sets all night in the balanced attack with Brosch claiming 20 assists and Reed 15 assists for the night.  Freshman Emma Larimore led the defense with 21 digs and freshmen Kynleigh Tyler added 11 digs; Brosch finished with 10 digs; Warner added 8 digs; and Cooley scrambled for 6 digs of her own.  A great team defensive effort to keep the ball alive led to the WIN!  Lady Tigers will travel to Cleveland MO on Saturday to compete in the Midway Volleyball tournament.  They will match up with Midway(@11:00), Harrisonville(@1:00), and Archie(@2:00) for pool play.  Tournament play will follow based on records after pool play.  Kaysinger action will then begin again next Tuesday, October 1,  as the Lady Tigers travel to Lincoln.
