The small rural town of Green Ridge was founded in 1870 during the time in which railroads were spreading throughout the west. It thrived because of the Katy Trail Railroad that stopped as it traveled from Clinton, Missouri to St.Charles, Missouri. When the railroad disbanded in 1988, some of the smaller boom towns faded into ghost towns. Green Ridge was one of the few towns that survived and now has a population of 455 people.

Green Ridge R-VIII School is the main focus of our town and continues to make new improvements every year as it grows to accommodatethe increased number of students. New classrooms, a computer lab, library, and office space were added on to the school after a devastating fire. Since then a full size gym and stage has been added, as well as, a separate building for the Superintendent’s office and one filled with new classrooms.
